Mahleket Hanikot Shotrim - Demo Cassette

Mahleket Hanikot Shotrim is probably the awesomest band that's around now. Their lead singer, Barak Meiri, is a notorious figure in the Israeli punk scene. Even so, this is probably his only decent band. Mahash play pure hardcore punk in the vain of Circle Jerks, Black Flag, etc. They even have a song titled Spray Paint - or more accurately - Spray Zeva. The other band members are Jenia (bass), David (drums) and Tal (guitar). Their demo is available through Urban Decay Records.

Achzavoth


Achzavoth is one of the most interesting bands that were ever formed in Israel. The only way I can describe them, is that they remind me of Guyana Punchline. But that's just me.
Formed around 2005 their members are Yoni Bendor on drums, Doron Bantam on Bass and vocals, Shaul Pollak on guitar and Zayden on guitar and vocals. This band has made itself known mainly by managing the Patifone - the number one hardcore / punk venue in Tel Aviv - and by their awesome and crazy shows.

M.E.S.S. - Weekend Ritual Massacre (CD, 2009), Live Radio Session (HaKatze), demo (CD, 2007), Videoclips


Mister Error Sound System first started in 2003. Their current lineup is Rafi (guitar), Kooki (vocals), Gutzy (drums) and Lior (bass). Although they have existed for quite some time, I only started getting interested when they've settled with the current lineup. Gutzy is a mean-ass drummer who brings a crazy thrashy ound to their songs, and Tamar is in my opinion the best singer to have ever walked on a stage in this country. Male or female.

Some people really can't stand them, but I think it's mostly because they are afraid for their eardrums. Their newest album is such an intensive experience to the Israeli listener, and I myself couldn't believe that it's M.E.S.S. and not some Swedish crust band.

Nikmat Olalim - Battle Legacy (CD, 2003), Self Devouring Land (7", 2004), various shows (2002-2005?)

Nikmat Olalim were active between the years 2001-2005. Its members were Tal - Bass, David - Guitar, Yaniv - Drums and me on vocals. Our goal in this band was to make political hardcore punk in the vain of Dead Kennedys, Propagandhi, Dir Yassin and Nekhei Naatza. We started playing at a time when most of the old political punks have left Israel, and we felt that the scene was missing something, which we tried to supply. Our success is for you to decide.
We recorded two sessions. The first was released on a CD titled "Battle Legacy" and the second was released on a 7" titled "Self Devouring Land". Recordings from the first session also appeared in a split 7" with a Turkish hardcore-grind band called Your Kingdom is doomed and in several compilations. Recordings from our second session also appeared on a split 12" with Oi Polloi.
The Band went defunct short after a two month tour in Europe in the fall of 2004. I guess spending so much time together made us lose all the chemistry and creativity that we had. Or it was just girl trouble... I don't know. I guess we all just grew up.

Zohar Vagner VeHamasrichim - S/T (CD, 2009)


Zohar Wagner and The Stinkers is a cabaret-rock band. Wagner cries out her poems, documenting her salacious adventures in the cold and estranged city of Tel Aviv, a city that is known to be cruel to its women. She tells of frustrated love, drunken bitter men, failed intercourse, nights filled with alcohol, dependence on cosmetics, porn or drugs, and offers little comfort or relief .The cries of despair of Wagner accompanied by cheesy, jazz - blues boogi played by the Stinkies.

Smartut Kahol Lavan (Blue and White Rag) were one of my all time favorite hardcore bands. Fronted by Federico Gomez (ex Anarchomanim, Nekhei Naatza, Dir Yassin and more...) and backed up by the best musicians that were around - Yoni Bendor on drums, Yaniv Meizel on Guitar and Guy Shaham on Bass. Smartut were active around 2002-2006 and have always inspired me with their original lyrics, fast interesting riffs and raw drum sound. They released two albums ("Magnetic Storm" and "Spontaneous Violence") on Boshet Records and a 7" on Lengua Armada. Try Heart & Crossbone Records for availability.

DPA - Straight Out of the Basement (CD, 200?), videos



"Formed in 1999 while touring Babylon /Useless ID Arik Mon (The mighty roadie) and Party found a shared love for the ultimate, sparkling Dr. Pepper drink. They then decided to form a band in the concept of being bored in the 80's even though it was the end of the 90's. What was there to do in the 80's besides wearing too much pink, going to punk shows, drinking DP, Eating chinese food and watching trashy movies in your parents basement such as The Goonies, Weird Science and Stand by me? We really don't know. But, Yuda Yace (another friend on tour) who would later transform into Dr. Pepper himself knew the answer and was crowned to lead the pact. On arrival back to jah holy land. The motivated 3 we're completed by Ido hamosveta and Kasha to handle second vocals and beat up anyone who took an unwanted sip of a Dr. Pepper Can. The band played shows all over Israel and gained a very warm crowd response as seen in the Straight outta da basement video. Eventually the band broke up in 2001 when every warrior went his seperate way and we're left with great memories and a classic hardcore record which would turn them into an unforgettable Israeli Hardcore band. Fast forward to 2007, All band members are "back to attack in the holy land" (not for long though... Pepper is here until Dec. 8 yace..yace..) so in conclusion we hope to see you all at the only 3 shows this band will play, have a great time and don't forget to start your day with a can of Docta peppa! yes i!" Bo La Bar - Various Recordings

Bo LaBar is a Useless ID side project, featuring Harpak on drums, Yishai Berger on guitar and vocals, and Evil Haim on Bass and vocals. They play straight forward punk and sing about their lives - smoking methadone hash, snorting crappy legal amphetamines, and going to the bar a lot.
Although they have recorded several times, they still haven't released anything official. But here are some mp3's I managed to collect:
