The Brilliantines - CD

The Brilliantines is a stage name that The Fluorescents took when they played in the israeli tv show "Zbeng".   This band isn't bad at all, but I wouldn't call them punk. Most of their songs are weird hebrew cover versions, some surf, some rock... and there are also some pretty funny skits between the songs. The best songs in my opinion are the surf versions of HaTikva (track 17) and Dana International's Diva (track 7). I'm still waiting to get the full track list. Thanks to Avi Pitchon for letting me rip his copy.

Symmetric Process - Demo

A demo from the forgotten realms of the past. This Kfar Saba trio tried to do a cross between black metal, grind and 'modern music'. To me this demo is interesting mainly because you don't get to hear a lot of instrumental recordings of this kind of stuff (a.k.a crap), and also because members of this band later became prominent musicians: one plays in the metal band "Seweged", the other is a prominent electronic musician. Don't get me wrong, there are some cool musical parts in this demo, but I put it up on this blog for archive purposes first and for headbanging purposes second.

Sinister Sveta - Verses On Random Thoughts (2010)

All i know of this sveta character is that she comes from the dark slums of jerusalem. To me this shit is unbelievably creative, painful and genius. Here's what she had to say: "my main point in this one is to play with tapes the fucked up way, to draw a blurry journey, soundtrack of thoughts using droning psychedelics, electric semantics, tape loops and random samples. Lehakat Israel - Sheker Kahol Lavan (1996)

Experimental noise / proto-punk / hip-hop circa 1987-2001. Lehakat Israel has been reffered to as the backbone of the jerusalem underground music scene, and yet it still remains quite obscure to many, me included. This is their first CD release (as opposed to cassette) and it is also available for download through their own webpage (http://www.mryisrael.com/music.asp?currentpage=1), where you can find some other interesting things. An interview with them from '88 can be found here, but unfortunately for some of yous, it's in hebrew.

Poliana Frank - No Choosing / Ein Livhor (1990)

Anacrcho-feminist "folk-punk". This band has been active from 1987 till 2002. They never got the right attention from the israeli-punk scene, even though they have a real anarcho-punk attitude. Maybe it's because Against Me! weren't as popular back when they were around... or maybe it's because of their relative popularity amongst the 'normal' ashkenazi, upper-middle-class pseudo-left-wing crowd. This is their 2nd Album.
